Winner of the Villa Medicis hors les Murs prize in 2003, of the Grand Prix du Design de Paris in 2004, of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs contest, "Créateur de l' Année" at the Salon du Meuble-Paris in 2009, François Azambourg has participated in numerous shows around the world exhibiting projects for the most prestigious editors including Capellini, Hermès, Domeau & Pérès, Poltrona Frau, Ligne Roset/Cinna, just to name a few. His work has also been exhibited at Gallery R' Pure in New York since 2010.
Inventor and designer, Azambourg combines beauty with the technique of craftsmanship, a true adept of applied arts. He is oriented towards simplicity and lightness, pushing himself into the realm of objects that go against common trends. In 1985, this resulted in him winning the Musée des Arts Décoratifs competition with a coffee pot made entirely of paper.
Azambourg "weaves" furniture and avails himself of techniques reminiscent of NASA. Reminiscent too, of poetry. He breaks radically with modern concepts distinguishing between structure and covering, instead hybridizing disciplines, mixing sophisticated composites, even including nature' s treasures in the process.
